SNA Panelists to Be Featured at Annual Convention of The Arc

Five SNA panelists will discuss “Special Needs Trusts (SNTs) with a Focus on Quality of Life” during The Arc’s upcoming convention in New Orleans. Scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, the session will highlight differences in state law, trustee options, the role of public services and more. All the speakers have close family members with disabilities and their presentation will be informed by parent and sibling perspectives. They are also all active members of local and state chapters of The Arc.

Stephen W. Dale was a licensed psychiatric nurse, working in California’s state hospitals and community programs prior to becoming a special needs attorney. He is on the board of directors for the Arc of California and regularly teaches classes on the role of SNTs in ensuring a secure and rewarding lifestyle for beneficiaries.

Bernard A. Krooks, New York, is president of the board of the Arc of Westchester and is frequently quoted on special needs issues by major print, online, TV and radio outlets.

James M. McCarten, Georgia/Tennessee, is expert in the areas of planned giving and taxation. He regularly with the Exceptional Family Member Program, providing outreach education for military families regarding future planning for, and with respect to, family members with disabilities.

Benjamin Rubin, J.D., Illinois, is president of SIBS (Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters, the state chapter of the Sibling Leadership Network) and a member of the Arc of Illinois board of directors.

Brian N. Rubin is president of the Arc of Illinois, chairperson of the State of Illinois Autism Taskforce, and serves on the State of Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission.
