Matthew T. Smith, Esq.

INTRODUCING MATTHEW SMITH, ESQ.

For Matthew Smith of Elder Law Lexington, Lexington, Ky., the path toward his legal career began in his youth, volunteering as a buddy to two boys with disabilities. Matthew enjoys hiking, jujitsu, and time with family (including the dogs). He hopes to one day own a small pub in Ireland. Find out more about him in this conversation with SNA.

I was volunteer “big brother ” to two severely disabled children while I was growing up. The two boys, Marcus and Justin, attended my sports games, we went to movies and shared a closeness until both of their untimely deaths. I was a pallbearer at their funerals. From these friendships I gained a fascination and curiosity for continuing to help those like Marcus and Justin. As a special needs attorney I am motivated by the improvements and strides we are making to improve the lives of the most vulnerable around us. I am happy to be a voice for those that often cannot speak for themselves.

You won’t get monetarily rich, but you will have one of the most gratifying professions in the world.

Hiking, practicing jiujitsu, spending time with my wife, our dogs, or my son David.

The harder I work, the luckier I am.

Owning a small pub in Ireland.
