INTRODUCING RACHEL TRAFTON, Esq
It was more like a pull! When I applied to the big firm in the Bangor area, my predecessor Jane Skelton noticed my background in social work and introduced me to this field. I can’t imagine a better practice area to use both of my degrees!
Most people don’t know this kind of work exists until they need it. Even my own family thinks I’m the type of attorney in a courtroom all day. I usually explain it simply: I help individuals with disabilities, seniors, and their families preserve assets and plan for the future.
I always knew I wanted to be an attorney! I didn’t expect to find myself in this particular area of law, or to one day be running my own firm, but I think life has a way of leading you exactly where you are meant to be.
My clients inspire me every day. Watching families navigate complex systems and come out stronger on the other side is incredibly motivating. I’m also deeply inspired by the amazing team of women in my office, who continue to do this important work with dedication and heart year after year. And of course, all the SNA members—your dedication and compassion keep me motivated.
Spending time outside with my family. We like walks, hikes, fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking, side by side rides, you name it. We always find some kind of activity to enjoy — it is my perfect way to recharge.
Podcasts and books have never really been a passion and with a 4- and 3-year-old at home, I don’t get much downtime these days either—but I highly recommend Schitt’s Creek for marathon binging or just to fall asleep to.
